I Claim Empowerment

What if, as girls, we were equipped for the real world? What if we grew up not being told to be "good girls" but rather powerful girls? Melody Pourmoradi, empowerment coach, author, and host of The Empowering Her podcast is on a mission to engrain these principles into girls, starting with her own twin daughters. Her goal is for girls and women to know that they are powerful beyond measure and that they can create a life that lights them up from the inside out.

Melody has a new book available on Amazon: Empowered Women Empower Girls. This week, she joins me on the podcast to discuss her new book and educate us on claiming empowerment in our lives.

Melody talks about why she started this journey, reflecting on her eight-year-old self, "I have this constant inner dialogue that's going on in my own mind. Like, what's a good girl do, and would a good girl do this? I don't use that phrase anymore. Instead of teaching good girls to be good, let's teach them instead to be powerful." Melody's movement, GiRLife Empowerment, is intended for women looking to empower girls to eventually become powerful women; the chance to watch small ripples become unstoppable waves.

Takeaways from this episode to stash in your tackle box:

  1. Stop using the phrase "be a good girl" with your daughter or our female youth, because what does it actually mean? Instead, replace it with be a powerful girl.

  2. If you were told to be a good girl growing up, and you're living your life according to the "shoulds," “I should do this because,” it's time to unpack and unlearn that limiting belief. Living according to the shoulds no longer serves you.

  3. When we know better, we do better. We're raising a future generation that believes in abundance, so there's no need to feel envious or jealous of another girl or woman. When she wins, we win too.

  4. Don't talk behind anyone's back unless we're saying something about how badass and awesome someone is.

  5. Replace FOMO with JOMO, the joy of missing out. I've been implementing this one into my life since Melody and I chatted, and it's been a complete and utter gamechanger.
