Moving Past Murder
I arrived to podcast live at Modern Day Wife’s Meet in Malibu event thirteen days post-surgery. Proud of myself for making it and wearing white to align with their theme, summer solstice, I had some minor obstacles to overcome with setting up my equipment and finding a power source. Because I was post-op, I couldn't bend, I couldn't lift more than five pounds, and my energy level wasn't where it typically is; in fact, this was my first real outing.
Insert Collier Landry. He was on-site with his friends Terra and Brenda, assisting them with their podcast, but offered to help me at hello. I was so appreciative, and because of him, I was able to record. After he helped me set up, my first two scheduled guests had no-showed, so I asked Collier if he'd like to sit behind the microphone. Now, remember, I didn't know Collier from Adam, and as you'll hear, I was practically left speechless after he began sharing his story. I had no idea what he was about to tell me. Trigger warning, this episode discusses trauma and the repercussions of murder, including survivor's guilt.
Episode summary
Collier Landry is a cinematographer and filmmaker who was 11 when his father brutally murdered his mother and buried her in the basement. He's also an all-around nice guy and the sole reason Erin was able to podcast live. Meeting for the first time at this event, Collier helped Erin assemble her equipment and locate power as she was 13 days post-op. When Erin's first two pre-scheduled guests no-showed, she took it as a sign from the universe to invite Collier to sit behind the microphone, having no idea what he was about to share.
