Dating Adventures Drawn Out

A fun perk about podcasting is sometimes a guest can add value to whatever subject you intend to cover and offer additional value by sharing a unique experience, a special skill set, or how they achieved their success, which adds to an already interesting conversation. I was like a kid in a candy store chatting with Rebekah Manley. If you've been following my journey, you know that writing a book is on my bucket list. You can imagine how much fun it was for me to learn about Rebekah's writing journey. I loved the comparison she made with the process of getting a book deal to dating to find the one. She spoke of experiencing the highs of highs and the lows of lows stating both journeys can be full of heartbreak and rejection, but you keep the hope alive because you can't imagine a life where the end goal isn't attained. You don't stop trying until you have it.

Just as there are parallels between writing and dating to find your match, Rebekah and I share several similarities. It's funny how two people can be so aligned in their beliefs, and their "why" but not know one another. Thank you, Brown Bear for the introduction! During our chat, Rebekah said she wanted to make people feel seen and heard. Her written words, a mere reflection of herself, yet poured out onto paper to promote friendship and empowerment through relatability. I started You're Such a Catch for similar reasons. I want men and women alike to know they're enough. I'm a women empowerment advocate, and I believe in inclusivity. I wanted to foster a community for like-minded people where they could feel seen and be heard.

Another aspect I enjoyed about our conversation was learning what books Rebekah is currently reading. Authors are usually deliberate in their book selection because they want to support one another, and they know how magical a book can be. I mention how pre-covid the novelty of an actual book was becoming extinct. I also recollected fond memories from a vacation I took with my mom to Jamaica, where we spent the entire week sitting on the pool deck, gazing out toward the ocean with a stack of books. It was one of my most treasured trips to this day.
